OPENING ODDS APRIL 1ST
(1/1) Jeff's NewSources (AKA Commish Snake)
For the 1st time since RFBB 7 we have a new
favorite to win it all on opening day. Our 10 time
champion (Rob) is serving a 1 year suspension
after publicly campaigning in the last few weeks
last season [after he was out of contention} for
all managers not to pick up pitchers to give
Ironman the best possible SP's knowing I was out
of moves. His efforts failed nonetheless. This
season there is an official rule against public
manipulations and the league asks all managers to
continue to pick up starting pitchers until the
season is over whether or not you believe you can
catch the team ahead of you.
Thus, the defending champion(me aka Commish Snake)
is favorite for the 1st
time since RFBB 6 (which I did win). The
NewSources have a Stanton and Judge leading the
offence.
Probably the best catching duo (Posey and
W.Contreras) will help the supporting cast of
O.Albies,P.DeJong, A.Rendon, Y.Cespedes and Tommy
Pham.
The pitching is the strength of this team with
Corey Kluber, Luis Severino, Gerrit Cole(on the
Astros now), and Luke Weaver. Mike Clevinger is
his SP,RP along with Wade Davis as the Rockies
closer.
I will be relying heavily on my new sources I
found last year who supply me with tons of
advice, updates, and expert opinions. No I do not
pay for these sources.
(5/1) Steves Ironmen 2018
After 8 straight 2nd place finishes including last
year's 144pt heartbreak loss to me on the last day
Ironman is more than hungry to finally earn his
first RFBB championship ring. He no longer has to
battle Rob this season so his chances greatly have
increased. Ironman has loaded up his infield with
Jose Altuve leading the way. Ironman is putting
alot of stock into the injury prone Daniel Murphy
and Kevin Turner coming back and doing there the
thing the rest of the way.
Ironman will be scouring the free agent market all
season for OF and Utilities me thinks.Though we
believe Ironman had a mediocre draft at best the
strength of the Ironmen is in his mid season
managing. Co-manager of the year last year and
many other manager of the year awards under his
belt will make Ironman a deadly competitor.
If Murphy/Turner come back with a vengence,
Encarnacion can push 7000pts,
Greinke/Darvish/Carasco have great seasons and
Ironman can manage his OF & Utils like an
expert then maybe Ironman just might pull this
out.
(8/1) Rancho RED SOX
Entering his 4th RFBB season Rancho finished 7th
last season after 3rd the
season before. Ranch has a very balanced squad to
start RFBB 16 lead by
Anthony Rizzo, Carlos Correa, and Mad Max.
Rancho really balanced each area of his team well
avoiding any major
loopholes even at Catcher with Y.Grandal and
Russell Martin. Rancho clearly
shows his love for Boston and Anaheim with
drafting R.Devers at 3B,
A.Benintendi OF, Ian Kinsler 2B, Shohei
Ohtani(Batter and Pitcher),
R.Porcello, and Garrett Richards. Rancho may have
the strongest closers duo
in the league with Craig Kimbrel(another Red Sock)
and A.Chapman.
Rancho needs a big season from C.Correa,Jacob
deGrom, R.Porcello, Evan
Longoria, and Josh Bell (aka his supporting cast)
if we wants to win it all.
He definitely has the ingredients now he just
needs to manager like a pro.
Rancho has a top 3 team at the moment and should
only go upward.
(15/1) tim's tornadoes
Entering his 3rd season and slowly progressing
each season (finished 7th two
years ago then 6th last year) Tim is getting more
accustomed to the RFBB
uniquie scoring system.
The Tornadoes have plenty of fire power with
Freddie Freeman, Carlos
Santana, Jose Ramirez, Mike Trout, and Matt Olson
leading the way. The
middle of this team is a boom or bust. Tim will
anxiously be awaiting the
results of Scott Kingery, Matt Carpenter, JP
Crawford and Chris Taylor. If a
few of those guys break out and the top tier guys
perform as expected this
may be a very tough team offensively.
Tim's pitching has us on the fence. Carlos
Martinez and Kyle Hendricks along
with Kenley Jansen are the most reliable
producers. Tim is hoping for big
seasons from Aaron Nola, Jose Berrios, and either
Jake Faria or Jack
Flaherty. Tim has several former top tier pitchers
such as Lance Lynn,
Johnny Cueto, and Cole Hamels waiting in the
wings.
Tim has a top 5 team right now but If things go
Tim's way, and he doesn't do
any foolish trades (we won't reference his rookie
season) Tim could be a top
3 finisher. Tim is going to have to manage like a
pro to win it all.
(25/1) David's Oakland A's
David has alot of work to do. Gary Sanchez,
Hoskins,Arenado and Lindor are
not enough without a proper supporting staff.
David needs a great deal of
unproven players to bring their A game all season.
Yoan Moncada, Bradley
Zimmer, Kyle Schwarber, Ronald Acuna all need
really good seasons for David
to contend. David is aware of the sharks though he
is known to make some
good trades. David needs to abuse the FA market
and Trade like a master to
break into the top 5. David has a ton of RFBB
experience which should help
him to stay in the race.
(30/1) The Buck Truck
Coach Hunter enters his RFBB rookie season with a
powerful offence. Paul
Goldschmidt, Bryce Harper, M.Sano, Beltre,L.Cain,
Corey Seager, Khris Davis,
Domingo Santana, G.Polonco and Justin Smoak will
be driving this Titanic.
On the pitching front Noah Syndergaard, Dallas
Keuchel, and Chris Archer
will carry the load. Hunter will need to manage
pitching very well to break
into the top 3 but by nature this team should be
in the top 5. Of course
Coach Hunter will have to avoid the injury bug as
many of his players are
prone to being bitten. Hunter's managing will
decide his fate.
(30/1) Yu-Tang Clan.
Chase enters his rookie RFBB season with Clayton
Kershaw, Robbie Ray and
Trevor Bauer leading the pitching front. On the
hitting front he has a well
balanced bunch of hitters led by Mookie Betts.
Joey Gallo, Eric Hosmer,
Alex Bregman, J.Schoop, N.Castellanos, J.Segura
and Christian Yelich are the
supporting cast for Betts.
The Yu-Tang Clan needs solid seasons from just
about all the supporting cast
to get into the top 3. If things go the Clan's way
this could be a very
strong team heading into September. The good news
is there shouldn't be a
whole lot of managing needed if everyone does
their job. I'm sure the sharks
will be coming after Kershaw, Betts, and Ray but
who can blame them. New
fish always are easy to bait.
